Disaster recovery

Things happen

PH80

Once in a while, we receive calls from disaster recovery companies inquiring about the best course of actions to take when a piano is located in a damaged house. Fragile by nature, a piano, especially when potentially damaged, should be handled with a lot of care.

For example, here is what could happen: We receive a phone call after the first disaster recovery steps have been applied. Because of its size, a piano is rarely the first thing to be moved. Yet a piano should never be on site when drying devices are working. A rapid humidity change will most likely create more damage to certain critical components of the piano like the body and the soundboard.

Because every situation is asking for a different approach, we strongly recommend to our partners to call us as early as they become aware of the presence of a piano on site. This precaution will prevent additional damages to the instrument.
